Lindquist, Lawrence E. (7 SEP 1897 - 4 APR 1957)

Lawrence E. Lindquist of 208 Bullard Court, Menasha, died Thursday evening, April 4, 1957, at Theda Clark Hospital, Neenah.  He had been in poor health since October.

Lawrence was born Sept. 7, 1897 at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and was one of a family of 12 children.  He graduated from Thorp High School in 1914 and then attended Oshkosh State Teachers College.  Following his graduation, he taught Manual Arts at Well, Minn., Parker, S.D., and Thorp High School.  He went to Menasha in 1927 and taught in the Menasha High School until 1944.  Upon leaving the teaching profession, he and two brothers formed a contracting company, known as Lindquist, Inc., in which he was active until October, when his illness began.

In 1932 he was married to Miss Madeline Treutel of Goodman, Wis.  They have three children: Lawrence Jr., who graduated from Purdue University in 1956, and is at present employed as a metallurgical engineer in Tacoma, Wash., Elizabeth, a junior at Marquette University, and Kathryn, a sophomore in high school.

Besides the immediate family, survivors include four brothers, Charles, Colusa, Calif., Russell and Durward, Menasha, and Kenneth, Thorp, and five sisters, Ella, Menasha, Mrs. Chester A. (Minnie) Johnson, Thorp, Mrs. Floyd (Esther) Holstein, Stevens Point, Mrs. W. R. (Ruth) Schoen, Green Bay, and Lorraine, Chicago.

Lawrence was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Eph. Lindquist, who were among the pioneers of Thorp.  Mr. Lindquist came to Thorp in 1883 and Mrs. Lindquist in 1886.  They resided at Thorp until their deaths, in 1937 and 1932, respectively.  Two other members of the family preceded Lawrence in death, a brother Donald in 1922 at the age of 11, and a sister Jennie in 1956.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, at Laemmerich Funeral Home and at St. Patrick’s Church at Menasha and Lawrence was laid to rest in St. Margaret Cemetery.
