Herman, Mr. & Mrs. Charles (Gold - 27 APR 1957)

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herman, who were married at St. Hedwig’s Church on April 27, 1907 by Rev. Francis Xavier Pudlo, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary beginning with a Mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church by Rev. Arnold M. Muckerheide at 9 o’clock on Saturday and at this time they renewed their marriage vows.  The music was furnished by St. Bernard’s Junior Choir.

The honored couple was escorted to the altar by their grandchildren, Jule Kowieski of Chicago and Twila, Lyn, Cheryl and Michelle Herman of Thorp who wore dresses of white and pastel shades and carried nosegays of painted daisies.

Mrs. Herman wore a navy blue suit dress, a hat of yellow and her corsage was of yellow roses.  They were attended by Charles Wichlacz and Mrs. Leon Bogumill.  Mr. Wichlacz also attended the couple at their wedding fifty years ago.

A luncheon after the Mass for the immediate family was held at their home and a chicken dinner and reception at 6 p.m. at the recreation hall of the Thorp Finance Corp.  The tables were beautifully decorated with bells and strips of gold and "50" markings, tall white tapers and yellow daisies.

They were presented with a number of beautiful gifts and one gift of special significance was fifty quarters in gold wrapping mounted on pebble board in a 50 formation, with addition of an appropriate verse from Mr. and Mrs. Harold Oldroyd and Richard.

Mr. Herman was born July 28, 1884 in Humphrey, Neb., the son of Thomas and Katherine Herman, but spent most of his life at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), receiving his education at the Yaeger Graded School north of Thorp.  His occupations have been that of farmer, general store operator and also tavern operator, retiring in 1953.  He is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mrs. Herman, the former Gertrude Margaret Bogumill, was born on March 17, 1888 at Glitzin, Penn., the daughter of Joseph and Mary Bogumill.  She also received her education at Yaeger Graded School.  She is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Bernard’s Christian Mother’s Society and the Legion Auxiliary.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman have six children living, who are Mrs. Frank (Marie) Kowieski of Chicago, Mrs. Clyde (Louise) Misfeldt, Mrs. Theresa Pease, Robert, Gerald and Jean Herman, all of Thorp.  Those deceased are (Rosella) Mrs. Gene Brunner, who passed away in 1939, John in 1933, and Edna Mae in 1926.  They have 14 grandchildren.
