Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (59^th - 20 May 1960)

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Davis quietly observed their 59^th wedding anniversary Friday at their home in Chili, and celebrated the event Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Freedlund, in Sherwood.

Viola Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Brown of Veefkind, and Gordon Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Whiston W. Davis of Fremont were married in the Congregational parsonage at Neillsville May 20, 1901, with the Rev. George W. Longenecker officiating.

Mr. Davis was born July 16, 1878 in the Town of York.  Mrs. Davis was born March 28, 1881, in Waushara County, where she attended school and grew to womanhood.  She emigrated in 1899, locating on a wild 80-acre tract four miles northwest of Chili.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Davis took up residence with his parents and operated the Town of Fremont farm until 1944, when they moved to Chili.

Seven children were born to them: Lorraine, who died in infancy; Claire, at home; Arleigh of Verona; Mrs. Otto (Flossie) Schmidtke of York Center; Mrs. Charles (Doris) Schwanebeck of Sherwood; Mrs. Richard (Ione) Miller of Rockford, Ill.; and Mrs. Norman (Donna) Freedlund of Sherwood.  They have 24 grandchildren.

Mr. Davis has been the collector of antiques for many years; and Mrs. Davis, who did much sewing and crocheting in earlier years, is a flower lover. Both enjoy good health.

Members of the immediate family gathered at the Freedlund home for the celebration.
