Hoffman, Jennie (17 APR 1930 - 29 NOV 2010)

 

Jennie Hoffman, 80, of Greenwood passed away at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate and burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, and at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.

 

Jennie Smolinski, also known as Dolly, was born April 17, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Stephen and Christine (Procydlo) Smolinski. She was raised and received her education in Chicago, graduating from Wells High School. While in high school, Jennie was in the Chicago Times 10th annual All Star Ice Show.

 

She was united in marriage April 23, 1950, to Raymond F. Hoffman in Chicago. In 1951, they built Hoffman's Resort at Mead Lake, which they owned and operated until 1972. Jennie also helped her husband with his electrical business, Hoffman's Electric, until his retirement in 1987. Ray passed away March 21, 2010. Jennie resided at home in Greenwood until her death.

 

Jennie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its St. Ann's Society and the Royal Neighbors.

 

She had many interests, but especially loved knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking, making afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was known for her frozen bananas, potica and pickles.

 

Jennie will be dearly missed by two daughters, Janet (Larry) Petersen of Marshfield, Sue (Bob) Karo of Willard; five grandchildren, Hollie (Tony) Bellovary, Corey (Olivia) Petersen, Rebecca (Greg) Karo, Angela (Joe) Karo, and Allison Karo; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Bellovary, Sawyer Bellovary and Cole Petersen.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; two sisters, Genevieve Smolinski in infancy and Helen Koza; and two brothers, Ed and Henry Smolinski.
