Gutowski, Joann (1 JUN 1957)

A beautiful wedding was solemnized with a High Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church of Thorp on Saturday, June 1, 1957.  Rev. Father Francis Piekarski officiating and performing the double ring ceremony.

Miss Joann Gutowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gutowski of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Clifford J. Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Schmidt of Thorp, and Miss Patricia A. Hendricks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Hendricks of Ladysmith, became the bride of Charles E. Gutowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gutowski of Thorp.

The brides’ were given in marriage by their respective fathers.

Intermission length fashioned the two bridal gowns of French Rosepoint lace and nylon tulle over celeste satin with fitted bodice, illusion yoke edged in hand-clipped scallops of lace, courtly Queen Anne collars and traditional long tapered sleeves.  Tiers of misty tulle and gathered lace with hand clipped scallops added bouffant to the skirts.  Hamilton Queen crowns of scalloped Chantilly lace outlined with pearls and sequins accentuated with an illusion tucking edge held the English imported pure silk veils.

They carried a white orchid and lilies of the valley on a white prayer book.

Theresa Gutowski, a sister of Chicago, Ill., the maid of honor, wearing pink, and the bridesmaids, Rosemary Sobatek, cousin of Patricia of Ladysmith, Mary Ann Gutowski, a sister of Thorp, wearing blue, had gowns of frosted nylon styled with a fitted bodice, bateau neckline and cap sleeves.  A crushed cummerbund inuring the waist, ended in two puffs in the back extending over the bouffant skirt of net and taffeta.  They wore colonial picture hats of crystal pleating in matching colors and carried tiny heart shaped bouquets of baby roses colored to match the gowns.

Nancy Gutowski, a sister, as flower girl, wore a miniature of the attendant dresses and carried a basket of carnations.

Serving as ring bearer was David Schmidt of Thorp, nephew of the groom.

The groomsmen were Clarence Schmidt, a brother, Armon Schmidt, a cousin, of Thorp, Ronald Boss and Peter Grouthaisen, both of Ladysmith.

Joe Schmidt, Leonard Boss and Carl Slowiak served as ushers.

A reception was held at St. Hedwig’s Hall where dinner was served to guests numbering 200 and for supper there were 400 guests.

The bride, Joann Gutowski, is a Stanley High School graduate and is employed at the Thorp Finance Corp.

Clifford Schmidt is a graduate of the Thorp High School and is employed as a truck driver for the Stanley Corp.

The bride, Patricia Hendricks, attended Our Lady of Sorrows High School at Ladysmith, and also St. Joseph’s School of Nursing at Marshfield.  She has been employed by the University of Chicago in clerical work.

Charles E. Gutowski attended Thorp High School and at present he is engaged in farming.
