Horn, Jeanette  (22 FEB 1931-26 OCT 2010-11-12

 

Jeanette D. Horn, 79, Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. A memorial service was held at 10 a. m., on Monday, Nov. 1, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, rural Greenwood. Rev. Mark Schwinn officiated. Interment of cremains followed at Forest Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Horn, Everett Wessel, Dennis Humke, Ray Toburen, Butch Jackson and Kurt Humke.

 

Jeanette Doris Humke was born on Feb. 22, 1931, in Greenwood, the daughter of George and Lelah (nee Sheets) Humke. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1950. She then attended Eau Claire Teachers College for two years. She taught in the Greenwood area at Rocky Run school and then later at Oakland school. She married Glenn M. Horn on June 4. 1955, in Greenwood. They farmed in the town of Warner until 1961, at which time they sold the farm and built the Bel Aire Motel in Thorp. They moved to Thorp and operated the motel until they sold it in 1983. They then purchased a farm in the town of Worden, south of Thorp, where they have lived until the present time. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aide, and a former leader of Braun 4-H. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, teaching her grandchildren to read, write, draw and play cards, gardening, flowers, recipes and eats.

 

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Glenn, Thorp; five children, Candace (Don) Cook, Warrens/Mesa, Ariz., Frank (Elaine) Horn  Thorp, Linda (special friend Jim Brost) Horn, Sheboygan, Randy (Connie) Horn, Thorp, and Howie (Special friend Julie Pickarts) Horn, Poynette; 11 grandchildren, Brandi, Nicole, Jessica, Scott, Melissa, Kayla, Jamie, Brandon, Brianna, Hudson and Trevin; one great-grand child. Joseph; two brothers, Irvin (Shirley) Humke, Greenwood, and Paul (RoseCaryl) Humke, Greenwood; one sister-in-law, Betty Humke, Sister Bay; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Glenn Horn Jr., in 1971; two brothers, George Humke Jr. and Harvey Humke; and two sisters, Ruth Toburen and Verona Jackson.
