Wenzel, Charles  (23 JULY 1936-28 OCT 2010)

 

Charles W. Wenzel, 74, Spencer, died on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, six days after suffering a massive heart attack. Memorial funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer. Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiated. Burial was in the West Spencer Cemetery, Spencer.

 

Charles Wenzel was born on July 23, 1936, in Marshfield to Robert and Lilllian (nee Gotz) Wenzel. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas, from Oct. 27, 1959, until his honorable discharge on Feb. 9, 1962. He worked at Spencer Sport Products as a supply clerk from 1962-65 and then at the Kohler Company in Kohler as a grinder operator from 1965-71. Chuck and his brother, Bob, bought Spencer Bowl and operated the bowling alley until it was destroyed by fire on Sept. 6, 1995, after which he retired. He married Donna L. Dunbar on Jan. 7, 1983, in Marshfield. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spencer. His hobbies were fishing, bowling and spending weekends at his cabin on Soo Lake in Phillips.

 

Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Travis Wenzel, Spencer, and Jason Wenzel, Spencer; a sister, Karen (Ron) Kupfer, Underwood, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Donald Griepentrog, Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Lois Wenzel, Hawkins, and Sally Wenzel, Spencer; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Wilbur Wenzel, in November 1933, Gordon Wenzel, in February 2002, Robert Wenzel, in July 2010, and Fred Wenzel, in August 2101; and one sister, Elizabeth Griebentrog, in May 2007.

 

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
