Behnke, Velda L. (24 NOV 1914 - 4 DEC 2010)

 

LOYAL -- Velda L. Behnke, 96, of Loyal died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Marshfield Care Center.

 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Burial will follow in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be at the church Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

 

Velda Lorraine Knoop was born Nov. 24, 1914, in the town of Lynn, rural Chili, the daughter of Louis and Laura (Retzlaff) Knoop. She was united in marriage to Arthur Behnke on Oct. 24, 1935, at Zion Lutheran Church in the town of Fremont. They farmed in the town of Lynn until moving to Milwaukee in 1950. Velda worked at Allis Chalmers Manufacturing until 1953. They moved back to Clark County and bought a farm just south of Loyal. They farmed until 1970. Velda also worked at the Loyal Canning Co. for a few years and then at the Star Lodge Motel in Loyal, until the age of 75. Her husband, Art, died March 9, 1996.

 

She is survived by her three children, Darlene Zinthefer of Marshfield, Velora (Lowell) Roehl of Loyal and Kenneth (Mary Kay) Behnke of Loyal; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irlene Wagner of Marshfield.
