Dear Sir: Well Mr. Noyes how is the world using you and the rest of my Greenwood friends? I am fine and dandy, never was better, although they keep me busy every day. I go fishing every chance I get and have great luck. There are a great many places to go and fishing is good.

Gertie Nelson arrived at our city Monday and is attending the business college here. Naomi is home on her vacation and she and mother are feeling fine.

Enclosed find $1.25 for the Gleaner and change address to 326 East 27^th St.

Friend Noyes: Enclosed find P. O. Order for renewal to the Gleaner. We often think of Greenwood and friends there, and sometimes wish that the old burg was near enough so that we could jump a street car and spend an evening or a few days there occasionally, but it is too far away to make frequent visits.

We felt sure that we would see at least a few of the people from Greenwood out to the Fair last summer but the Brick boys were the only ones that showed up. I never saw such people to stay at home, why don’t they get out and move around and see how this western country looks and how their old friends are? We would be glad to see any of our old friends at any time and the trip would do them good.

Hoping this finds you and your family well and all of our old friends happy and enjoying the best of health.

Greenwood 2 - Loyal 3.

Greenwood is starting in to make a good finish at ball season this, if a poor beginning is a reliable sign. Yet the beginning is nothing to be ashamed of either, for Sunday’s game proved to be a close one and with good feeling on both sides.

Neither side scored until the third inning when Loyal got one. Then in the fifth the visitors ran in two more, which certainly looked somewhat dismal for the home team. It continued as dismal for Greenwood, until the eighth inning when Huber sent the ball to the tall grass and made home on it, bringing in another score ahead of him. Neither side was able to score again and the game closed with the score 2 to 3 in favor of the Loyal boys.

Litner and Welsch was battery for the visitors, while Carter and Anderson was battery for Greenwood.

Mrs. H. R. Schofield and daughter returned Thursday from their Minneapolis visit.

August Beyer will give a dance in his hall on the West Side this coming Saturday evening.

Ella Larson is receiving a visit from her cousin, Miss Mabel Larson, of Black River Falls.

The Ladies Aid society will meet in parlors of Grace M. E. church Friday afternoon, June 8^th.

Ole Moberg has recently built a hay barn on his place in the eastern part of the city. It is 20x26 ft.

Mrs. Amelia Barber and daughter Helen are visiting friends in the Twin cities, going up Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barton were up from Weston to see their brother graduate Friday evening.

Mrs. A. C. Barr of Longwood was among the commencement visitors, the guest of the Fradette family.

Every person graduating from one of Allen’s Business Colleges, the past year, now holds a good position.

Miss Matilda Stube of Whitehall has been spending the past week, the guest of her cousin, Mrs. H. H. Hartson.

Viola Mack of Shell Lake is visiting her sister and Greenwood friends, she accompanying Lottie Fradette home.

Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Kelley received a visit Decoration Day from Mail Carrier Elmer Hutchins and wife of Loyal.

Mrs. Wm. Thorne and two children went to Reedsburg Friday to spend a few weeks with relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hiley Pratt and daughter Clarice left Monday for an extended visit with her people in Sheldonville, Mass.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kapka were up from Neillsville Tuesday repairing damages on the toll lines of the Badger State Co.

Mrs. A. P. Raymond departed Monday morning for Auburn, N. Y., their former home, to spend the summer with relatives and friends. Clinton has been there since last fall.

Mrs. R. C. Mason went to Eau Claire Saturday to transact business with Mrs. Lillian Hollister, supreme commander of the L. O. T. M., and to attend the class initiation which was help publicly. She returned Sunday evening via Withee.

Miss Anna Bryan left Saturday for her home at Riley, near Madison. She has made a host of friends during her two years in charge of the primary department who will be pleased to learn of her success in the future as in the past.

This is anything but pleasant weather, the kind ordered, for the old soldiers’ reunion at Loyal this week. Yet despite the inclement elements many are going over to make the best of it. No doubt many will go over today if the weather is fair.

Pearl Shanks is taking a vacation from her duties as "hello" chief and went to Butternut Monday to visit - relatives. She will also visit friends at Park Falls. Her sister Lucy is looking after the central during her absence and is assisted by Nellie Young.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rossman left Monday for Sheboygan where the grand lodges of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs are in session this week. Mrs. Rossman is a delegate from Greenwood lodge of Rebekahs, while Mr. Rossman is alternate delegate for the Odd Fellows.

Chas. Elstrom of Bright, with two sons and a daughter were down Friday evening to see his daughter Matilda graduate from the Greenwood high school. They were accompanied by Mrs. Elstrom’s sister, Miss Lena Carlson of Black River Falls, who is making the family a visit.

The Order of the Eastern Star will give an ice cream and strawberry social tomorrow, Friday, evening from 7 o’clock on until all are served, on the Noyes lawn. If it should turn cold or continue wet the social will be held in the house. Everyone is invited. The usual prices will be charged.

At the meeting of the Greenwood Telephone Company stockholders Monday forenoon the following five directors were elected: John Bryden, Dr.s J. C. and K. W. Baker, Ed Buker and P. E. Peterson. A meeting of the directors was held in the evening at which officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Dr. J. C. Baker, president; John Bryden, vice president: P. E. Peterson, secretary; C. O. Baker, treasurer.

George Brooks of Lynn was in town the first of the week looking after his farm in the town of Loyal, adjoining Geo. Brown’s place. Regarding his candidacy for nomination for sheriff, he says he is going to let the public know that he is a candidate and will keep before the voters and let them take their pick of candidates. He is not ashamed of his record in his first term and believes the voters will use their best judgment and he is willing to abide by their decision at the primaries.

Maj. M. G. Dillenback is in the city, arriving yesterday, and is organizing the young people to give a home talent play, "The Starry Banner, or the Spy at Gettysburg," at Woodmen hall, Thursday and Friday evenings, June 21 and 22. This will be for the benefit of the Greenwood Silver and Reed Band. The Jamor is accompanied by his wife who does the instructing. They come well recommended and appear like most agreeable people for such an undertaking. They have done similar work at Thorp for five different seasons and have been in many of the other towns in this part of the state. Watch for further advertising later.

Robt. McConnell and Will Syth returned Tuesday morning from Eau Claire where they accompanied Harry Hewett the day before and visited George McConnell who is still in the hospital under the doctors’ care. The boys report that George is looking well, and is able to move about in a wheel chair. His back seems to be slowly healing and some feeling is developing in his hips so that they have hopes of his sooner or later regaining the use of his lower limbs. According to the boys it will be up to Harry Hewett to explain how he became lost almost as soon as he reached Eau Claire and found himself, like a man lost in the woods, wandering around in a circle.
