O’Brien, Robert (6 August 1918 - 3 August 1960)

Robert O’Brien, 41, died August 3, at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Tomah. 

The son of Mr. and Mrs. William O’Brien, he was born August 6, 1918, in Neillsville, and graduated from the Neillsville High School in 1937.  He entered the army in 1944 at Minneapolis, Minn.  In November of 1945 he was discharged and entered the hospital at Tomah.

Mr. O’Brien is survived by his parents; five children: Miss Colene O’Brien of Springfield, Ore., Patty, Bonnie and Robert, Jr., all of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ronnie, with the Air Force.  Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. C. Marshall of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Lyle Sischo of Springfield, Ore.; and a brother, Harold O’Brien of Milwaukee.

Funeral services were held August 8 at 2 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob Grether in charge.

Pallbearers were Frank Zank, George Pagenkopf, Orville Evanson, William Neville, Jr., Clarence Collins and Frederick Stelter.

Ellis Wall, accompanied by Mrs. J. Grether, sang two hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me."

American Legion military rites were conducted at the Neillsville City Cemetery, where burial was made.  The commander was Leon Stanley; bugler, Jack Stucki; color guard, Clarence Haigh and Harold Pischer; color bearers, Arnold Henchen and Otto Dux; and firing squad, Herman Tesmer, Alfred Magnuson and Ernest Ott.

People from out of town attending were: Mr. and Mrs. William O’Brien of Black River Falls; Miss Patty, Bonnie, Robert, Mrs. Margaret O’Brien, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Marshall, all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harold O’Brien, Lee Curtiss, and Gene O’Brien, all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie O’Brien of Omaha, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Netelton and Clarence Collins of Hixton.
