Schmidt, George J. #2 (31 DEC 1880 - 24 SEP 1957)

 

Funeral services for George J. Schmidt were held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 9:30 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic.  He was born in Hilbert, Wis., Dec. 31, 1880, and died at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 23 days.  He was married to Josephine Smith May 3rd, 1910 at Thorp at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.  He came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1908 and located on a farm 2 miles west and ¼ mile south of Thorp (now known as the Vic. Grajkowski farm) and lived there until 1948 when he retired and moved to the City of Thorp.  He suffered a stroke nine years ago, from which he never recovered.

 

Left to mourn are his wife, Josephine Schmidt, two sons, Bernard J. Schmidt of Hudson, Wis., and Raymond N. Schmidt of Thorp, two daughters, Mrs. Art (Marie) Stewart and Alice Schmidt, both of Thorp, also 11 grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Sept. 28, Rev. G. B. Curtiss officiating.  Interment was in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were John Maier, Wilfred Vanderhyden Sr., Jay Alger, Lawrence Van Loo, Andrew Heiman and Frank Benzschawel.
