Columbia, Wisconsin Area (25 August 1960)
Light frost visited our area August 15. Cornfields on the William Schulz and George Poertner farms show frost damage, although gardens and other crops were not touched.
A total of three and three-fourths inches of rain fell in our vicinity over the weekend, as shown on a rain gauge at the William Sollberger farm.
A young man from Iowa, because of dense fog, landed his Piper Cub plane in a large field on the William Schulz farm last Thursday morning. He remained at the Schulz home about two and one-half hours before resuming his flight to Durand. In the afternoon about four o’clock he again flew over the Schulz farm on his way to Milwaukee.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Youker and children returned recently from a visit with relatives in St. Paul, Minn.
