Topinka, Joe (24 July 1881 - 2 August 1960)

 

Joe Topinka, 79, who lived for 50 years in the Town of Dewhurst, died Friday in Marshfield following a heart attack.  Funeral services were held there Monday.

 

His daughter, Anne, a registered nurse, called Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hand Friday informing them of her father’s death.                                 

 

He leaves his widow, five sons, Joe, Jr., James, George, Arthur, and Victor; and four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Gossman, Mrs. Lillian Liga, Elinor and Anne; and 24 grandchildren.

 

Mr. Topinka was born in Czechoslovakia July 24, 1881, and came to America in 1895, locating in Chicago.  He married the former Bessie Starha in Chicago in 1906, and the newly weds came to Clark County, locating on a farm south of Roy Iverson’s, now owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Marion Kluckhohn.  Later they moved onto a farm west of the Ray Harwick farm, which they still own. They moved to Marshfield in 1959 to be near their children.
