Withee, Wisconsin (22 September 1960)
Word was received last Monday by Mr. and Mrs. William Drauheim of Longwood that their eldest son, Ray, had succumbed to a heart attack at his home in northern Oregon.
Mr. and Mrs. Drauheim, who were injured in an accident a few weeks ago, were unable to attend the funeral. Their daughter, Mrs. Carl (Anita) Vater, joined her sister, Mrs. Elmer Youmans, in Minneapolis and they attended the service. Mrs. Vater is expected home Monday.
Just as we left the house on the Emil Rohland farm up the walk toward us came, galloping, a medium-sized dog, black as coal with a small kitten dangling by the nap of the neck from his mouth.
Startled, we called Mrs. Rohland, who promptly said, "Oh, he does that all the time." The first time I saw it I was horrified; but they are the best of friends, eating, sleeping and playing together. The dog generally goes to get the kitten when he is fed. Sometimes Kittie gets tired of being carried around and scratches his nose. Then he drops her.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Arndt accompanied her brother, Earl Robinson, and family to Milwaukee for a week’s visit at the home of their son, George Arndt and his family.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rossman of Withee and Mrs. Ines Marden of Greenwood visited Mrs. Marden’s granddaughter, Mrs. Jack Krueger, in Loyal Sunday.
Mrs. Elva Mertens and daughter, Mrs. Ellen Miller, have been visiting relatives in West Allis, Sheboygan and Milwaukee. They are expected home about Friday.
Mrs. Herman Lwiaas, Mrs. Michael Carrey, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Radley and Mrs. Earl Cornwell and son, Ivan, drove to Bloomer to see Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Owens, Sr., Sunday. While there they also visited Mrs. George Olson and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Marshall recently purchased the house formerly belonging to Richard Neilsen, in the northern part of town. Mr. Marshall is a band director for the Owen-Withee School. The family is now getting settled. They were living at Gilman until they could find a house to live in near his work. They have four children: Steve, 6; Tommy, 4; Kathy, 3; and Terry, nine months.
