Chaltry, Leonard Clifford, Sr. (5 January 1931 - 17 December 2010)

 

Leonard Chaltry Sr., 79, of Neillsville died Dec. 17, 2010, at home with his family at his side.

 

Leonard Clifford Chaltry was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Marinette, the son of Clifford and Alice (LeSage) Chaltry.  He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes in Marinette.  He was united in marriage to Arleen Miller Nov. 1, 1950.  Len worked in sales for Jewel Tea in Rhinelander.  Later, they moved to Neillsville and he began his career in the insurance industry selling for Metropolitan Life.  For many years Len was an independent insurance agent.  In later years he became an investment broker.

 

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Men’s Club and the Neillsville Country Club.  He was an avid golfer and packer fan.  Len enjoyed playing cards, traveling and crossword puzzles.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arleen; his eight children, Teresa (David) Kufalk of Schofield, Jeffrey Chaltry of Green Lake, Leonard Chaltry Jr. of Red Granite, Thomas Chaltry of Marshfield, Susan (David) Olson of Black River Falls, Lisa (Geoffrey) Clark of Brentwood, CA, Janet (Michael) Winscher of Chippewa Falls and Denise (Allen) Wildish of Oshkosh.  He is further survived by his 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roland Chaltry of Menomonie, Larry (Rose) Chaltry of Kiel, and Gene (Rosie) Chaltry of Marinette; and one sister, Dolores (Malcolm) Cann of Troy, MO.

 

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Leon; his daughter, Lori Ann; his grandson, Aaron; and his parents.

 

Funeral services for Leonard were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 20, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Fr. Jerome Naduvathaniyil officiated.  A Knights of Columbus Rosary Service began at 9 a.m. followed by a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Black River Memorial Hospice, 711 West Adams Street, Black River Falls, WI 54615.
