Hium, Theodore (11 June 1899 - 19 September 1960)
Funeral services for Theodore Hium, 61, were held last Thursday afternoon from Immanuel United Church in Greenwood. The Rev., Orval Egbert officiated. Burial was made in the West Side Cemetery, with the Wallis-Hinker legion Post in charge.
Mr. Hium and his son, Kenneth, were pitching bundles of corn in the field, for silo filling, when he was stricken suddenly with a heart attack at his farm, 4 ½ miles northeast of Greenwood on September 19.
He was born 11 June 1899, in Vernon County. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hium. He lived there until he was 21, when he came to Greenwood. Two years later, June 6, 1922, he was married to Emma Wehrman at the Wehrman home in Greenwood, by Rev. Otto Vriesen. They settled on the present farm, where they have resided since.
For the last several years he had been employed by an implement company in Withee.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Kenneth, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Chester (Marie) Nirva of Withee; and by six grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Marie) Cummings of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Harry (Stella) Gordee of Greenwood.
Mrs. Calvin Awe, Mrs. Phillip Vollrath, Mrs. Delmar Toburen, Mrs. Norman Liebzeit and Mrs. George Humke, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Schwarze, sang, "The Land of the Unsetting Sun," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Active pallbearers were: John Zimmer, Hubert Kuehn, Walter Schwarze, Henry Keller, Otto Kind, Sr. And Al Bauer.
Honorary pallbearers, all Legion members, were: Paul Kippenhan, John Meng, Alfred Schwarze, John Mortl, Kenneth Rodgers, Fred Behrens, Dave Thwing and Carl Stabnow. Color guards were Richard Larson and Cecil Lombard; color bearers, Lawrence Jackson and Laverne Brown; firing squad commanded by Kenneth Speich, Frank Petkovsek, mike Podobnik, Cletus Susa, Val Yurkovich, John D. Speich and Don Tieman.
