Baum, Walter (1924 - 20 October 1960)
Funeral rites took place in Owen October 25 for Walter Baum of Black River Falls. He was born in 1924 on a farm north of Withee. Five years ago he moved to Black River Falls with his family, where he drove truck for Mid-West haulers, having his own tractor.
The tragic accident October 20 that caused his death came when the truck he was driving was struck on a little used crossing at Crystal lake, Ill., by a switch engine.
Surviving are his wife, three children and two step-children; four brothers, Edward and Arnold of rural Withee, Gus, Jr., of Chicago, and Ray, in the navy; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Baum, Sr., who flew here from Hialeah, Fla.
Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
