Felix, Verdelle Genevieve (13 July 1921 - 23 December 2010)

 

Verdelle G. Felix, 89, of Loyal died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at her son’s home in Greenwood.

 

Verdelle Genevieve Turnquist was born July 13, 1921, on the home farm in Greenwood to Adolph and Julia (Hendrickson) Turnquist. She attended the Christopherson School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1939.  Verdelle moved to Chicago in 1941 and lived with her sister, Helen.  She got a job working for the Pullman Company and worked there until 1945.  Verdelle was united in marriage to John "Jack" Felix Dec. 19, 1945, in Chicago.  They lived in Chicago until 1948 and then moved to Greenwood and farmed until 1962.  The farm was sold and both she and her husband went back to work outside the home.  Verdelle went to work at Marshfield Homes in 1964 until becoming employed at the Marshfield Clinic in 1966.  She worked at the clinic until retiring in 1987.  After the death of her husband July 29, 1990, she sold her home in Greenwood to her son, Doug, and moved to Loyal to live with her sister, Helen.

 

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and its W. E. L. C. A., the Loyal American Legion Auxiliary and made many quilts with the church ladies.

 

Verdelle is survived by three sons, Douglas (Priscilla) Felix of Greenwood, Bruce (Deb) Felix of Marshfield, James (Mary Lou) Felix of Greenwood; granddaughter, Nichole Felix; step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Kaileigh Mientke; nephew, Bill Tell; niece, Paula Burgher; great-nephew, Karl Tell and great-niece, Emmie Cubitt.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John "Jack", and three sisters, Ruth Bertz, Vera Tell and Helen Axelson.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Chruch in Greenwood, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  Rev. Curt Rohland officiated and burial followed in the Greenwood City Cemetery. 

 

Pallbearers were: Bo Reed, Larry Cook, John Hagan, Dean Johnson, Dennis Larson and Randy Hendrickson.  Honorary pallbearers were Our Savior’s quilting ladies, the ladies of Naomi Circle and La Vern Nagel. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Chruch.
