Hughes, Dan P. (? - 2 December 1960)

Dan P. Hughes, 81, a brother of James Hughes of the Town of Grant, died suddenly Friday evening of a heart attack in Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Catholic Church in Menomonie, with burial there.

Mr. Hughes was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hughes, pioneer settlers of the Town of Grant.  He attended Kurth School and was graduated from Neillsville High School.

He attended Central State College in Stevens Point and was graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He served for many years as superintendent of the Dunn County agricultural college in Menomonie, and later as Dunn County agent.

About 20 years ago, Mr. Hughes lost his first wife in an auto accident which put him in the hospital for many months, and suffered permanent injuries.  He re-married several years ago and his widow survives.  He has a son, Joe, who lives in Indianapolis, Ind.

Attending the funeral from the Neillsville area were: Donald Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Short, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Magnuson.
