Bertz, Connie (Salutatorian - 1952)
Janet Ohlrogge and Connie Bertz, Loyal High School seniors, have been announced as having the highest scholastic averages in their class for the four years of high school work. In addition to doing outstanding work academically, they have been prominent in extra-curricular activities of the school.
Janet Ohlrogge, valedictorian, is the daughter of Mrs. Edith Ohlrogge of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), and Claude Ohlrogge of Beloit. Janet attended the Loyal Public School for the entire twelve years, and was an outstanding student in grade as well as in high school. She has been a member of the girls glee club and the mixed chorus for all four years, was president of her class in the sophomore year and is president of her graduating class. She has been a member of the Library Club, the F.H.A. and the Student Council. She has been on the staff of the school paper for four years, on the yearbook staff for two years, and this year she is editor of both publications. She represented the school at the district forensic contest at Stevens Point a month ago, where she was entered with an original 4 minutes speech. An additional honor will be bestowed on Janet at the commencement exercises when she will be awarded the D.A.R. good citizenship award, having been selected for this distinction by vote of her classmates and faculty. The award is made to the senior girl promising the most outstanding qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, which go to make up good citizenship. She has made arrangements to enter St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in the fall.
Connie Bertz, salutatorian, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bertz of Loyal. She completed her grade school work at St. Anthony’s School, where she was one of the leaders of her class. She has played the clarinet in the band for four years, has been active in the Library Club, F.H.A. and as a member of the staff of the school newspaper. She was prom queen in her junior year, and this year is secretary of her class, has a part in the senior class play to be given soon, and was a staff member of the yearbook. She has also been a cheerleader for the last two years. Connie plans to attend Mount Mary College at Milwaukee next year, where she plans to work for a degree in occupational therapy.
