Robert E. Davenport, 84, Fort Atkinson, died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Countryside Home, Jefferson. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 27, at Dunlap Memorial Home. The Rev. Jennifer Long of the First Congregational Church of Christ officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Stoughton.
Robert E. Davenport was born on July 22, 1917, in Stoughton, to Earl and Allys (nee Farman) Davenport. He married Dorothy Hoeppner on Aug. 17, 1940, in Eau Claire. A graduate of Stoughton High School, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UW Madison. He moved to the Fort Atkinson area in 1952 from Monroe. He was a vocational teacher in Greenwood from 1940-43 and taught in Monroe from 1943-52. He became associate editor of Hoards Dairyman in 1952, and remained there until 1972. From 1972 until his retirement in 1982, he taught at the Blackhawk Technical School, Janesville. He served his country during World War ll. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, and a former member of the Fort Atkinson Lions Club.
Survivors include three sons, John (Sue) Davenport, Waupaca, David (Karen) Davenport, Oconomowoc, and Peter (Cathy) Davenport, Thorton, Colo.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Beth Armstrong Freiburger, Stoughton.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Dorothy, on March 4, 1986; and his parents.
