Boiler Explosion Kills Two At Loyal
Two men lost their lives at Loyal last Friday when the boiler in a cheese factory at that place exploded. Arthur Jenks, owner of the factory, was instantly killed, while Thomas Vogel was seriously injured and was brought to the hospital here, where he died shortly after arriving. The boiler was defective and was condemned by an inspector some time ago. The boiler went through the roof of the factory and landed on a barn 400 feet away. The building was badly wrecked.

Loyal Boiler Explosion Kills Two
The Herald last week gave a brief account of a terrible accident that happened at Loyal, caused by the explosion of a 20 horse power boiler in a cheese factory owned by Arthur Jenks. The news reached the Herald just as the paper was ready to go to press and was therefore only a brief synopsis of the happening. Later developments show that on the day of the accident (Friday) Mr. Jenks, who was assisted in the factory by Thomas Vogel, attempted to fill the boiler with water and it was very evident that it was empty. When the cold water was turned on the boiler exploded with terrific force Jenks was blown completely out of the building and across the yard of his home adjoining the factory. He was terribly mangled and instantly killed. Vogel was found beneath the brick and debris and was hurried to this city and taken to St. Jospeh's Hospital, but died just as he was entering the place. Portions of the building were blown a distance of 500 feet, the force of the explosion being felt all over the village. Both of the victims were married men and leave families. Arthur Jenks, owner of the factory, was a brother of R. M. Jenks, cashier of the Loyal State Bank.
