Sophie Marie Kozenka was born on April 29, 1926, in rural Thorp, the daughter of John and Josephine (Norysiewicz) Kozenka. She was raised on the family farm and educated in the Thorp area. Sophie was united in marriage to Edward Michur on September 4, 1943 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church east of Thorp.  They farmed east of Thorp until 1947, at which time they bought a farm south of Thorp and farmed until 1979.  Sophie then went to work at Oakbrook Health & Rehab, where she worked until her retirement in January of 2001.  She resided in Thorp until the time of her death.  Sophie was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its P. C. C. W.  and loved to garden and polka dance. She was known to her friends and acquaintances as a genuinely nice and kind person and was her children’s greatest support and encourager.

She will be sadly missed by her four children: Ed (Nancy) Michur of Blue Grass, IA, Marie Michur of Eau Claire, Ken Michur of Kenosha, Nancy Michur of Thorp; two grandchildren: Stephanie (Chris) Fowler of Blue Grass, Iowa, Jennifer (Kevin) Behncke of Blue Gras, Iowa; her mother Josephine Kozenka of Thorp; and one brother Joe (Josephine) Kozenka of Thorp.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother in infancy.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
