Autio, George Edwin (14 August 1927 - 28 December 2002) With flag

 

George Edwin Autio, 75, of Rockton, IL, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 28, 2002, at the Beloit Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, Beloit, WI.

 

He was born August 14, 1927, in Watertown, South Dakota, the son of Reverend Yrgo (George) and Tyyne Elena (Himottu) Autio.  George was Beloved for his pleasant nature and compassion.

 

He married Marion Mae Mattes on September 25, 1948, in Thorp, WI.  He was salutatorian of his 1945 Owen High School graduating class, entered the U. S. Navy in 1945, and later was a graduate of UW-Madison.  George ran the accounting area at the Mattes Livestock Market, and latter owned and managed the Silver Dollar with his wife, Marion at Thorp.  He was employed by Alexander Grant in Rockford, IL as a Certified Public Accountant, then worked as a CPA at Huberty and Associates in Fond du Lac, WI, and later was employed by Macktown State Bank in Rockton, IL, before retiring in 1992.

 

He was a member of Rockton American Legion post #332, where he served as finance officer, an also was an active member of the Beloit Breakfast Optimist Club, where he held positions of President and Secretary-Treasurer.  In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, computers, watching football, and spending time with his wife, family and friends.

 

Survivors include his wife Marion; two daughters: Pam Autio of West Allis, WI and Georgia (fiancée Justin Delgadillo) Autio of Shorewood, WI; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Scott and Jess Williams of West Allis, WI; two great-grandchildren, April and Cassidy; brother Martin (Audrey) Autio of Springhill, FL; sister Ruth Harju of Bridgton, ME; sister-in-law Barbara Autio of Bridgton, ME; along with several nieces and nephews. George will be missed dearly by his family, long with many loving friends and neighbors.  He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Philip R. Autio.

 

Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003, at Thorp Funeral Home, 110 West School Street, Thorp, WI. Burial will be at Sylvan Cemetery, Township of Reseburg, rural Thorp.
