Speich, Barbara  (10 APR 1899-08 MAR 2002)

 

Barbara M. Speich, 102, Neillsville, formerly of Greenwood, died on Friday, Marsh 8, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. Funeral serviced were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 12, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Greenwood. Pallbearers were family members.

 

Barbara Marie Beyer was born on April 10, 1899, in Colby, to Martin and Julia (nee Winkler) Beyer. She attended school in Colby and graduated from Colby High School. She attended teachers’ college in Stevens Point and was a teacher in Leona, Greenwood and Marathon County. She married George Speich in Colby in November 1923. They resided in Greenwood, where he was owner and operator of the Ford car dealership for 27 years. After her husband’s death on Jan. 2, 1979, she continued to live in Greenwood until entering the nursing home in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society and the Royal Neighbor.

 

Survivors include one son, Kenneth (Glenda) Speich, Rock Dam; one daughter, Carol Pope, New Orleans; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, George; one sister; one brother; and one grandson, Steve Speich, in 1981.

 

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
