Schwartz, John A. #2 (15 JUN 1880 - 25 MAR 1961)

 

John A. Schwartz died at his home in Colby Saturday after a prolonged illness.  He was 80 years old.

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the village hall at Abbotsford, with Evangelist Peter Hunter officiating.  Burial followed in Memorial Cemetery at Dorchester.

 

Pallbearers were Dwight Below, Harold Brockhaus, Walter Brunner, Alfred Burkholtz, Lawrence Carlson and La Vern Marcott.

 

John Schwartz was born in Austria June 15, 1880, and came to America with his parent when he was three years old.  The family lived on a farm west of Stetsonville.

 

Mr. Schwartz and Ida Wolf were united in marriage Oct. 29, 1907, in Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.), after which the couple farmed five miles west of Stetsonville until 1942 when they retired and moved to Colby.

 

He leaves his widow, three sons, Edward of Watertown, S.D., Elmer of Lodi, Calif., and Harvey, Glenwood City; and three daughters, Miss Helma Schwarze, at home, Mrs. Arvid (Clara) Carlson of Abbotsford and Mrs. Adolph (Anna) Behnke, Cecil; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

 

A daughter, Lorraine, preceded him in death in 1923.  Two sisters and one brother are deceased.
