Elpert Bros. Home (Gutted By Fire - 1954)
The Loyal Volunteer Fire Department, with the Loyal-Beaver fire truck, answered a 10:40 a.m. call to a fire on the farm of the Elpert Brothers, Joe, Wallace, and Frank, Sunday.
The farm is located in the Pelsdorf neighborhood about 4 miles southeast of Loyal. The two-story house was all ablaze before the firemen could reach the farm, and, although they did a fine job of fire-fighting for two hours, the house was gutted by the fire. The walls and roof remained standing. Water to fight the fire was obtained at the Elpert farm and Schlinsog factory.
It is thought the fire was caused by an over-heated stove or defective chimney. Some furniture was saved. The loss was partially covered by insurance.
