Humlie, William  (31 JAN 1917-08 FEB 2003)

 

Rev. William H. Humlie, 86, Stoughton, died on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb, 12, at the Skaalen Home Chapel, Stoughyon. The Rev. Jim Koza and the Rev. Robert Alley officiated. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Luther Valley Church Cemetery, Beloit.

 

William Hellard Humlie was born on Jan. 31, 1917, in Detroit, Mich., to Rev. Lars Oscar and Petra Anderson. He spent his early childhood in Brooklyn, N.Y., and rural Beloit. He attended the rural Fischer Elementary School and graduated from Orfordville High School. He attended St. Olaf College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. During World War ll, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Comar and Ruhr campaigns. He returned from service to graduate with a degree in philosophy from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., and was ordained into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1950. He served the Willmington Lutheran Church, Arnegard, N.D., First Lutheran Church, Muskegon, Mich., and Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Following a disabling accident in 1975, he assisted various parishes in southern Wisconsin. His interests included listening to jazz and choral music and golf.

 

Survivors include his wife, Alice M. Humlie, Stoughton; five children, Erik Humlie, Wisconsin, Leah (Fred) Naess, Colorado, Barth (Carol), Minnesota, Claude (Nataya) Humlie, Florida, and Karen Humlie, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Jillian Humlie, Minnesota; and three sisters, Betty Skinsnes, Louisana, Beatrice Miller, Oregon, and Marian Pearson, Oregon.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents, and three brothers, George Humlie, Rev. Peter Humlie and Paul Humlie.

 

Ryan Funeral Home, Stoughton, assisted the family with arrangements.
