Edward John Dutzler was born on Nov. 13, 1946, in Waukegan, Ill., the only child of John and Margaret (nee Wirtz) Dutzler. He was raised and received his education in Libertyville, Ill., graduating from Libertyville High School in 1964. After high school, he went to work for the Frank G, Hough Company. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he returned to the Frank G, Hough Company and continued to work there until 1980. In September 1980, he moved to a farm south og Loyal, where he farmed with his cousin, Arnie Wirtz, until 2000. He enjoyed helping the Amish by providing transportation when needed. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed raising purebred pigeons and rabbits, and deer hunting.
