County Homemakers (October - 1954)
Winter Bouquets First Homemaker Project - Save the warmth and beauty of the fall countryside to add a touch of warmth to our home on a dreary winter day. That’s what the homemakers of the County will be working toward in October. The first homemaker project for the 1954-1955 year will be "Winter Bouquets".
Homemakers will be studying ideas for arrangements in their homes that may be made after frosts lay the last summer flowers low. The leaders in their groups will also show simple principles that make a bunch of flowers or twigs into an arrangement.
Assisting with the center meetings this month will be Mrs. John Perkins and Mrs. Gorden Vine, Neillsville; Mrs. Jack Crothers, Granton; Mrs. Edwin Haslow, Loyal; Mrs. Bill Krause, Owen, and Mrs. Tony Will, Colby.
Each homemaker’s club is invited to send two project leaders to center meetings. Other groups may send representatives if they contact their center officer ahead of time.
The following groups will meet from 10:00 till 3:00: Owen, Sept. 29, Owen High School; Withee, October 1, Withee High School; Neillsville I, Tuesday, October 5, Neillsville Bank Rooms; Neillsville II, Wednesday, October 6, Neillsville Bank Rooms; Abbotsford, Tuesday, October 12, Abbotsford high School; Thorp, Monday October 13, Thorp City Hall.
Four centers have arranged to meet from 1:00 till 4:00. In order to maintain such a schedule, leaders must be prompt, and be prepared to stay until 4:00. The centers are: Tuesday, October 5, at Mrs. Jack Crothers’ home, Granton; Loyal I, Wednesday October 6, Loyal Municipal Building; Greenwood, Tuesday, October 12, Greenwood High School; Abbotsford, Tuesday, October 12, Abbotsford High School; Loyal II, Thursday, October 14, Loyal Municipal Building.
The projects will be conducted by the "learn by doing" method rather than by demonstrations. County Home Agent, Sara Steele, suggests that groups will profit from the projects most if the members bring a good supply of flower containers, flower holders, mats, accessories, and twigs, weeds and flowers to both the local club meetings and center meetings. Suggestions of things to bring include baskets and bowls as well as vases, Chicken wire as well as other holders; gourds, pine cones, driftwood, candles and candle sticks as well as other accessories; plain pieces of denim or other solid color material as well as bamboo and other mats; and fall leaves, fall weeds, flowers and boughs to arrange.
