Harycki, Fern Ione (11 April 1925 - 21 January 2011)

 

Fern I. Harycki, age 85, of Thorp, passed away at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, in Stanley, on Friday, January 21, 2011.  Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday January 25, 2011 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp.  Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers were her grandsons: Troy Potter, Todd Kuehl, Lonnie Kuehl, Ted Kuehl Jr., Joe Von Haden and Eugene Von Haden.  Visitation was held at the church, on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service.

 

Fern Ione Shoemaker was born on April 11, 1925 in the Town of Butler, rural Thorp, to Ernest and Ruth (Butler) Shoemaker.  She was raised and received her education in the Butler area, and attended Augusta High School, where she graduated in 1943.  In the fall of 1944, Fern was united in marriage to Victor H. Kuehl and six children were born from this union.  They moved to Eau Claire in 1958 and were divorced in 1959.  Fern worked at various places in Eau Claire, including, Bartosh Cleaners, delivered auto parts for Tingvold Auto Parts, Yard 4 Supper Club and at the Eau Claire paper mill.  On September 20, 1969 she married the love of her life, Edward S. Harycki of Thorp, and resided in Thorp the rest of her life.

 

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church.  Fern and Ed enjoyed many travels together, their rose beds, cooking and crocheting.  She will be missed by many.

 

Fern will be dearly missed by two sons: Ted (Peggy) Kuehl of Fall Creek, Vilas (Nola) Kuehl of Eau Claire; three daughters: Ione (Henry) Niehoff of Stone Lake, Louise Von Haden of Eau Claire, Eda (Ray) Potter of Bruce; three step-sons: Edward (Jean) Harycki and William (Peggy) Harycki of Linthicum Heights, MD, Sylvester (Alice) Harycki and William (Peggy) Harycki, both of Thorp; one step-daughter, JoAnne (David) Jablonic of Deerwood, MN; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; six brothers: Bill (Jean) Shoemaker of Waunakee, WI, Leo (Charlotte) Shoemaker of Eau Claire, Dareld Shoemaker of Altoona, Ervin Shoemaker of North Branch, MN, Albert (Bonnie) Shoemaker of Hixton; four sisters: Lucille (Louis) Weaver of Lakeside, AZ, Darlene Mayes, of Fremont, CA, Norma Timm of Augusta, Virginia Scott of Kenosha; one sister-in-law, Nora Shoemaker of Altoona; and as she would say, "My Boys" Tom (MaryAnn) Smasal and Scott (Marilyn) Koltis and families; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by: her father, Ernest, in 1956; her mother, Ruth, in 1928; her husband, Edward, in 1995; her step-mother, Hazel, in 1993; one son, Ivan Kuehl, in 1968; brothers: Paul in 1974 and Donald in 2007; two sisters in infancy: Laurel in 1930 and Dorothy in 1932; one granddaughter, Doreen Kuehl; two step-sons: Paul in 1992 and Francis in 2004; one step-grandchild in infancy and one step-great-grandchild in infancy.
