Nelson, Frederick (7 April 1866 - 16 November 1954)

 

Fred Nelson, 88, former Town of Beaver resident for many years, passed away Tuesday night at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he was a patient.

 

Complete details on the funeral services were not available at press time but burial will be either Friday or Saturday from the Methodist Church in Loyal with the Rev. W. M. Mecklenburg officiating.

Frederick Nelson, 88, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 1954.  he had been in poor health for some time.

 

Mr. Nelson was born in Norway April 7, 1866 and came to America with his parents when eight years of age.  The family settled in Fond du Lac and he received his education in Norway and Fond du Lac.  The family moved to the Town of Beaver, Clark County, in 1878 and lived on a farm.  When, a young man he worked in Oklahoma, Texas, and other western states.

 

He was married to Lillian Shupe, August 1904, at Withee. The first years of their marriage they lived in Tacoma, Wash.  They returned to Wisconsin and lived in the city of Loyal.

 

Later they moved to a farm in the Town of Beaver. After the death of his wife in December, 1953, he made his home in Colby with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt.

 

He was taken to the Hospital November 6.  He is survived by a grandson, Allen Nelson of Wauconda, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Braun of Westboro.  A son, Leon died in January 1954.  A brother John died this month and two more brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church here and burial was in the Loyal Cemetery. The Rev. W. M. Mecklenburg officiated.

 

Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. G. W. Nelson sang "Stranger in Galilee" and "In the Sweet By and By" and Mrs. Byron Zepplin was organist.

 

Pallbearers were: Paul Young, Reno and Harold Herdrich, Melvin Severson, Alfred  and Harry Skorstad.

 

Relatives from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Duarne, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Skorstad and daughter, Mr. Harry Skorstad, Mrs. John Skorstad, Mrs. Helmar Nyen, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Severson, all of Blair; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shupe, Schofield; Mrs. Cora Waterman and daughter, Mrs. Mildred Nilson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs.  J. A. Rosar, Wauwatosa, Mrs. Mary Braun Westboro, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Colby.
