Kovacs, Jasper (6 JAN 1881 - 19 FEB 1962)
Funeral services for Jasper Kovacs, 81, who died Feb. 19, 1962, were held this morning at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. The 10:30 requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Gerald Schuh of St. Louis Catholic Church at Dorchester in the absence of the Rev. Raymond D. Schulz. Burial was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery.
Pallbearers were C. J. Klieforth, Leo Rumann, Frank Lukas, George Calmes, Joe Sulik and Clarence Dolan.
The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home where a rosary services was held Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock.
Jasper Kovacs was born in Hungary Jan. 6, 1881. He married Sophia Klettner in Canada and came to the United States in 1915 and farmed west of Abbotsford until 1942 when he retired and moved to Abbotsford.
Mr. Kovacs had been in failing health and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Saturday night. Death occurred at 12:35 Monday morning.
Mr. Kovacs was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic congregation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, on Jan. 21, 1957. One sister and one brother also preceded him in death.
Surviving him are a stepson, Joseph Klettner of Chicago, three granddaughters, Mrs. Archie Melvin, Abbotsford; Mrs. Frank Caridei and Mrs. Bernadine Grinnel, Chicago; and seven great-grandchildren.
One brother, Steve Kovacs, Catawba, also survives.
