Greenwood, Wisconsin Area (23 February 1961)

Approximately 135 people of the area attended the 75th anniversary World Day of Prayer service at Zion United Church Friday afternoon.  Cooperating churches were the Grace Methodist Church, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Immanuel and Zion United Church.

The theme was, "Forward Through the Ages."  Leaders participating were: Mrs. Allan Fravert, Mrs. Jerald Richmond, Mrs. Otto Voie, Mrs. Carl Turnquist, Mrs. Arthur Christie, Mrs. Robert Bartelt, Mrs. Robert Schneider, and Miss Louise Keiner.  Mrs. Daniel Olson was organist.

The speaker was Miss Ruth Verhulst, a missionary on furlough from Malaya.  She began her talk by saying the Lord’s Prayer in Chinese, and told of her work in the missionary fields in Malaya, where she worked since 1952, and of the importance - of world-wide prayer for continuance of progress in mission work.

Special musical selections were a duet by the Rev. and Mrs. Arvid Myhrwold; a solo by Miss Jo Ann Peterson accompanied by Mary Syth; and a number, "That’s why I Love You," by the children’s choir of Immanuel United Church, under the direction of Mrs. Walter Schwarze.  Receiving and the presentation of the offering was made by the ushers, Mrs. Charles Ludwig and Mrs. Hugh Severson, and by the Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor of the host church.

The service closed with the benediction by the Rev. Gene Carlson, pastor of Grace Methodist Church.
