Lynn Township (Freak Accident - 1961)
Cars driven by Neillsville women were badly damaged in an unusual accident in Lynn early Monday morning, but the occupants escaped unhurt.
Mrs. Leona R. Lee had pulled her car into the pumps at the side of Highway 10 in Lynn about 7:30 p.m. She got out of the car while the air pressure in the tires was being checked.
A car driven by Mrs. Norman Gennrich, a nurse who works in Marshfield hit a patch of ice on the south side of the highway and started to swerve. It went in a circle and the back of the Gennrich car rammed the rear of Mrs. Lee’s car.
The collision started the Lee car in a forward motion down the hill. William Dankemyer, Lynn resident who was driving a team of horses toward the scene, reported that both cars passed him and his team, one on either side.
The Lee car went across the driveway to the Lynn Dairy, through a fence down into a pasture and circled around to the fence again. It covered from 600 to 700 feet in its unattended movement, passing over a pile of logs enroute, according to Officer Harry Frantz of the County traffic patrol.
