Yankee, John ‘Archie’ (22 November 1893 - 26 February 1961)
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Neenah for John (Archie) Yankee, 67, who died February 26, at his home following several years of illness. Burial was made in Green Lawn Memorial Park there.
Mr. Yankee was born November 22, 1893, in Heintown, Clark County, the son of the late C. William and Kate (LaZotte) Yankee. He left Clark County when a small child.
He served as Winnebago County jailer for six years and for 16 years was an employee of Hardwood Products in Neenah, retiring five years ago. He was a veteran of World War I.
In his work at the plant, Mr. Yankee matched all the plywood that was made into doors used in the White House in Washington, D. C., when it was remodeled several years ago.
He was a member of the Oshkosh Eagle’s lodge, No. 267.
On September 1, 1938, he was married to Nellie (Swann) Hantke, formerly of Pleasant Ridge. Surviving besides his wife is a step-daughter, Mrs. Nadine Novotny of Oshkosh; a brother, Hugh Yankee, Ladysmith; and a granddaughter, Julene Novotny.
Pallbearers were: Ervin, Robert, Orvall and LaVern Klapper and Norbert and Wilbur LaZotte.
Those from this community attending the services included Mrs. Ruben Hantke and Mrs. Tony Hantke.
