Foemmel, Ray (4 November 1914 - 4 February 2011)

Raymond H. Foemmel, 96, died Feb. 4, 2011, at Serenity Hospice House in Phoenix, AZ.

He was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Clark County, to Fred and Margaret (Lautenbach) Foemmel.  He received his education in public and parochial schools in the Town of Grant, Clark County. Raymond was a lifelong dairy farmer.  He married Doris E. Spry May, 2, 1942 and together they operated their rural Granton farm until they retired.

Raymond was an active member of his church and community.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Granton for 76 years. During that time, he served as president, treasurer and elder and was also a member of the Building Committee for construction of a new church.  He also served as president, treasurer and secretary of the Men’s Club and captain of the dart ball team at Zion. Raymond’s community involvement included various offices on the Wild Rose School Board, 4-H project leader, Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee for the Town of Grant, and a member of he Rural Fire Department Board.

After retirement, Raymond and Doris lived in the village of Granton for eight and one-half years and the city of Neillsville for nine and one-half years. They moved to Loveland, CO, in 1991 to be closer to their daughters. While in Loveland, they joined Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and enjoyed its friendly group of Keenagers. Raymond also enjoyed fishing while living in Colorado.

In 2002, Raymond and Doris moved to Arizona, first to Tucson and then to Mesa, where his wife passed away in 2003.  Raymond lived at Good Shepherd Villa and Emeritus Assisted Living prior to his death.

He is survived by three daughters, Joyce Rose and Joyann Gold of Sun Lakes, AZ, and Janice (Jim) Mesar of Mesa, AZ, as well as five grandchildren and nie great-grandchildren.
