Mabel L. Whittemore, age 66, Route 2, Withee, died in her home at 7:45 p.m.
Friday, October 6, 1978.
Funeral services in her memory were held on Monday, October 9, 1978 at 1:30 p.m.
at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, with the Rev. Lloyd Yaggie, Pastor of
Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiating. Burial services followed in the
Riverside Cemetery at Withee.
The pallbearers were Ben Mueller, Bernard Auberg, Allen Niemi, Leon Bruchert,
Norbert Bruchert, and Jim Alberts. The organist for the services was Mrs.
Dorothy Rabska, and the soloist was Mrs. Louise Luedke.
The deceased was born on August 19, 1912 in Withee, and had lived there all her
life. She is survived by four brothers, Charles of Owen, Arthur, John and
Robert, all of Withee; five sisters, Mrs. Walter (Norma) Sperling, Withee, Mrs.
Emil (Alice) Hanke of New Berlin, Mrs. Gebhardt (Agnes) Braatz of Schofield,
Mrs. Laura Kus of Withee, and Mrs. Ruth Blum of Owen.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.

It’s hard to believe, but it has been one whole year since the official “Grand
Opening” of LaVerna’s Fabrics Shop on County Trunk E. near Curtiss, and in
recognition of a whole year, LaVerna Marcott is having a First Anniversary
Celebration this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 19-20-21.

Harvey Zilsdorf, 566, a resident of the Clark County Health Care Center, was
found dead at 8:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 1978. He died of an apparent heart
attack after he had taken a walk on Thursday afternoon.
Services were held in Maurina Funeral Home in Owen on Monday afternoon, October
16th at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Lloyd Yaggie, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran
Church of Withee, officiating.
Burial was in the Catawba Cemetery, Catawba, Wisconsin.
Mr. Zilsdorf was born on August 12, 1922 in Catawba, Wisconsin. He lived and
worked on a farm at Catawba until 1956, when he entered the Clark County Health
Care Center.
He is survived by two cousins, Mrs. Agnes Timm of Watertown, and Mrs. Clyde
Hillard of Catawba.

Mrs. William (Alvina F. “Suzie”) Stolp, age 71 of Fifield, Wisconsin, formerly
of Rib Lake, died Wednesday, October 11, 1978 at the Edgewater Haven Nursing
Home in Port Edwards.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14th at the First Congregational
Church in Fifield, with the Rev. Myron Glick officiating. Burial followed in
Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield.
The former Alvina Mohr was born October 2, 1907 in Rib Lake, where she attended
schools. She was married October 13, 1928 to William Stolp in Rib Lake, and they
lived in Owen until 1970, when they moved to the Fifield area.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Sylvia) Koch, Wausau; one
son, Donald, Stratford; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Reinke,
Fifield, Mrs. Mildred Brander of Medford, and Mrs. Dorothy Jarchow, Owen; and
two brothers, Fred Mohr Sr., Medford, and Erin Mohr, Owen, plus nieces and
nephews.

When given in marriage by her parents, Miss Julie Ann Oehler became the bride of
Edward Allen Rowe during a 4 p.m. ceremony held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church,
Owen on Saturday, October 14, 1978. The Rev. Richard L. Fliss conducted the
nuptial ceremony, at which Joseph Wisniewski was vocalist and Jerry Oehler was
organist.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Oehler, Withee, and the groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Byrl Rowe, Owen.
The bride chose an old fashioned gown of satulustra trimmed with Venice lace,
fashioned with high neckline, Bishop sleeves and ruffled flounced hemline with a
sweeping chapel train. From her matching picture hat of Venice lace a floor
length veil of illusion was attached. The bride carried a cascade of fall
arrangement of roses and baby’s breath.
Her aides were Miss Jane Oehler, Withee, maid of honor, and Kathy Foley of Owen,
Cheri Napier of Withee, Linda Hoeppner, Medford, and Lynn Cole, Lubbock, Texas
we bridesmaids. They carried yellow and orange tipped roses and wore halter back
styled gowns in cocoa colored sheer Dacron print over taffeta, with matching
ruffle edged capes.
Tom Meckely of Owen was best man, and John Hanson of Withee, Larry Rowe and Bob
DeVoe, both of Eau Claire, and Joe Wisniewski, Withee, were groomsmen; and Terry
Pawlukiewicz and Gary Smith ushered.
The dinner was served in the church hall, and the reception and dance were at
Meadow View Country Club, Owen.
The bride graduated in 1976 from Owen-Withee High School and in 1977 from
District 1 Technical Institute, Eau Claire. She works for Weather Shield
Manufacturing Company, Incorporated, Millwork Division, Medford. Her husband, an
employee for Liberty Homes, Dorchester, is a 1972 graduate of Owen-Withee High
School and a 1973 graduate of the same technical institute.
They are living at Stetsonville.

Living at 204 Butternut Street, Abbotsford, are Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Carl
Wirtala, who were married October 7, 1978 by Rev. Douglas Groenewold in St.
John’s Lutheran Church, Wiothee.
The former Miss Sandra Sue Scidmore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scidmore,
Route 1, Curtiss was given in marriage by her father to the son of Mrs. Vendla
Wirtala, Route 4, Greenwood, during a 2:30 ceremony, for which Mrs. Sonia
Groenewold was organist and Duane Helgerson, soloist.
As the bride proceeded down the aisle she was seen wearing an old-fashioned
bridal gown of ivory satalustra and Venice lace, with chapel train and an elbow
length veil of tulle and matching lace affixed to a bridal headpiece. Her
flowers were a cascade of yellow roses, baby‘s breath and ivy.
Preceding her to the altar area were her aides, Mrs. Barbara Wachsmuth of Owen
as matron of honor, and Miss Carole Wirtala of Milwaukee, Miss Susan Shook,
Chicago, and Miss Dawn Wachsmuth, Owen, bridesmaid. They had coral floral print
frocks and cascades of chrysanthemums, baby’s breath and miniature carnations.
Robin Wachsmuth and Holly Rah were flower girls; Brian and Richard Wirtala, the
ring bearers.
In the role of best man was Richard Wilson. Acting as groomsmen were Charles
Wirtala of Withee, Joe Scidmore of Curtiss, and Mike Wirtala of River Falls, and
as ushers, William Wirtala, Greenwood, and Douglas Rahn, Milwaukee.
The wedding dinner and reception were at the Loyal Legion Hall, Loyal.
Both graduated from Owen-Withee High School, the bride in 1973 and her husband
in 1969. She is assistant librarian at Owen-Withee Elementary School and he
works for Liberty Homes in Dorchester.
