Donald F. Degenhardt, 83, Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Allouez Parkside Village after a chronic illness. A gathering of family and friends was held at 9 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church. A service of remembrance was celebrated at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ron Belitz officiating.
Donald Degenhardt was born on March 27, 1927, in Milwaukee, the son of Frank and Gertrude (nee Vogel) Degenhardt. He attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and graduated from Loyal High School with the class of 1944. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He then furthered his education at the McCormack Business College, pursuing his business administration and higher accounting degree. He served his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Radioman Third Class in the PMB Squadron #205 from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Kathleen Hoesly at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal and the couple enjoyed more than 63 wonderful years together. He was employed by a CPA firm in Chicago and as a general manager of the Vulcan Corporation Bowling Division foe 44 years with plants located in Antigo and Richland Center, and Hancock, Mich. He was very instrumental in developing the first injection molded coating on bowling pins. He was a long-time member of the Antigo Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as direcror for several terms, and was also the president of the Manufacturers Association. He was also very active in the V.F.W.
Survivors include his loving wife Kathleen; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Deanna and Lawrence Schroepfer, Green Bay, Deb and Bob Heiman, Forestville, and Dona and Mayor Jim Schmitt, Green Bay; one son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Shannon Degenhardt, Rochester, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Sean (Ann) Schroepfer, Nathan Schroepfer, Mark Hiller, Dane Hiller, Anna Schmitt, Greta Schmitt, Laura Schmitt, Aspen Degenhardt, Cheyenne Degenhardt, Seanna Degenhardt and Shania Degenhardt; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Ryan, Paige and Alex Schroepfer; three brothers, Albert Degenhardt, Ken Degenhardt and Harvey (Bonnie) Degenhardt; three sisters, Darlene Klann, Sue Kohlnhofer and Nancy Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially his life-long friends from kindergarten, Rev. David Brusky, Claude Bickler and Al Sorenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Eva Schmitt’ two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Lois; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Klann, Joe Kohlnhofer and Dick Schmitt.
