Funeral services for Mrs. James Bertz, 48, Loyal, who died Saturday morning in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, after an illness of several years, were held at 9:30 a. m. Tuesday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Feider, chaplain at St. Coletta’s Institute at Jefferson and a cousin of the deceased was the celebrant of the Solemn Requiem High Mass. He was assisted by the Rev. Norbert King, Loyal, and the Rev. H. Crubel, Owen. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers were all brothers of the deceased, Anthony, Claude, Joe, Alex, Peter and Francis Bickler.
Mrs. Bertz, the former Hedwig Catherine Bickler, was born on Oct. 14, 1906, at Random Lake. She received her education in St. Mary’s Parochial School in Marathon where the family moved when she was a child. They came to Loyal in 1928. On May 29, 1928, she was married in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church to James Bertz. They resided on a farm 3 miles south of Loyal, and later, moved to the city. Mrs. Bertz was a member of the
Altar Society.
Survivors include her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Alex (Gertrude) Davel, Stevens Point, and Mrs. Dan (Marian) Engebretson, Evanston, Ill.; eight brothers, Alex and Victor, Milwaukee, Joseph, Kaukauna, Anthony, Neillsville, Peter, Sheboygan, Francis, Oshkosh, and Arthur and Claude, Wausau; and her mother, Mrs. John Marx, Neillsville.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral from Wausau wer: Mrs. Ed Armitage, Mrs. Harold Linder, Mr. John Uebelacker, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bickler, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bickler.
