Clemens Bernard Esselmann, 86, a pioneer resident of the area and an active leader in the town of Loyal met his death Tuesday afternoon at his farm home when he was crushed by a bull about 5:15 p.m. in the barn yard.
There were no witnesses to the accident, so the exact nature of the mishap in unknown/
Mr. Esselman was a former town clerk and school clerk in the town of Loyal. He was a director of Citizens State Bank of Loyal since 1909 and was vice president at the time of his death. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Knights.
The body will lie in state at the Myre Funeral home beginning Thursday afternoon. A general rosary service will be held there on Friday evening.
Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Norbert King officiating. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Esselmann was born May 13. 1866 at Westphalen, Germany. He came with his parents to West Bend at the age of one year. At the age of 10 he came to Clark County to settle. From the time of his marriage on Oct. 12, 1897 to Barbara Christman, he resided on his present farm. His wife died in 1940.
He is survived by a son, Joseph, Loyal; and two daughters, Sr. M. Ann, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Patrick (Dorothy) Dolan, San Mateo, Calif. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother and two sisters also survive.
