Ciokiewicz, Elizabeth Julia "Betty" (23 August 1926 - 19 February 2011)

 

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Ciokiewicz, age 84, of Thorp, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2011, surrounded by her family.  Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp.  Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a 5:30 pm. rosary service.  Visitation was also held at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

 

Elizabeth Julia Rogalski was born on August 23, 1926, in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, to John and Evelyn (Ignowski) Rogalski.  She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Polzin School. Betty was united in marriage to Joseph Carl Ciokiewicz on April 17, 1948 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp.  After their marriage,  they moved to Chicago and Betty worked in a factory for several years, before moving back to Thorp in 1961.   They bought her parents’ farm  and remained  there until 1999.  She then moved to Morgan Plaza, in Thorp, until June 2010.

 

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed sewing, quilting, mending clothes and thrift sales.  She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary.

 

She is survived by six children: Gloria (Bill) Knar of Stanley, Arlene Frye (John Fransway) of Thorp, Sharon Wiand of Champagne, IL, Daniel Ciokiewicz (Cherly Hilton) of Muskegon, MI, Randy (Karen) Ciokiewicz of Fennville, MI, and Tim (Renee) Ciokiewicz of Kansas City, MO; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Richard (Gerri) Rogalski of Tucson, AZ, John (Josephine) Rogalski, of Crystal Falls, MI, Donald (Janet) Rogalski of Thorp, Fred (Florence) Rogalski of Kenosha, and Robert (Joyce) Rogalski of Stevens Point; one sister, Alice Balicki (Milton Foytek) of Cicero, IL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, on June 27, 1976; two sisters: Marcella Ciokiewicz and Eleanor McCoy; three brothers: Stanley Rogalski, Chester Rogalski and Clarence Rogalski in infancy.
