Swanson, August Otto (9 September 1862 - 21 April 1961)

Funeral services were held Monday from the Georgas Funeral Home for August Otto Swanson, 98, 207 W. 15^th St., who died here Friday.  The Rev. E. G. Burtness of the Calvary Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Swanson was born September 9, 1862, in Sweden and came to the United States when he was 19 years old.  He located in Omaha, Nebr., where he was employed on a ranch.  He also worked in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  He resided in Illinois for several years, where he worked on a railroad, before coming to Clark County in 1906.

He located on a farm in the Town of Pine Valley, (the Sidney area) where he farmed until his retirement in 1945.

On February 10, 1899, he was married to the former Jennie Larson in Maywood, Ill. She died in 1945.

Surviving are the following children: Charles of Minneapolis; Harry of La Crosse; Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Stiemke, Tomah; and Mrs. John (Hulda) Simonson, Evanston, Ill.  Also surviving are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Ed Allen, Carl Allen, Emil Zank, Tom Wren, Otto Hainzlsperger, and Paul Kruetz.  Two hymns, "Abide with Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by Miss Kathleen Galstad.
