Merrill, Anna (unique Christmas greeting - 1913)

The Merrillan Leader tells of a most unique Christmas greeting received by their postmistress, Mrs. Anna Merrill.  Mrs. Merrill has a sister living in Spokane, Wash., who had her voice recorded on a blank phonograph record and sent it by parcel post.  The record arrived Christmas morning and placing it on her phonograph Mrs. Merrill had the pleasure of a short visit from her sister who was several thousand miles away, the words being plain and the voice natural.  Besides Christmas greetings the distant one told of the weather and how they were getting along.  It seemed so good that Mrs. Merrill felt like hugging the record.
