Hoehne, C. C. (Honored ‘Man of the Year’ - 1961)
C. C. Hoehn, about 91, was honored by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Sunday afternoon as its Greenwood ‘Man of the year’.
He was presented with a plaque by Arthur Petkovsek, Chamber president, in the presence of Robert Ramin, Chairman of the committee which made the selection, Harold Kromm, Vernon Mech and Truman Hill, committee members: Mr. Hoehne’s sons, George and Julius; and William Steiger and Ted Humke, long-time residents of Greenwood, representing the community.
The presentation was made on the front porch of the George Hoehne home, where Mr. Hoehne was a visitor. He was in a wheelchair, to which he has been confined with a hip fracture.
The head of a hardware business in Greenwood which bears his name, Mr. Hoehne started business there in 1901. He has been actively interested in the business for the 60 years of its existence; but since his injury last fall, his time devoted to it has been necessarily limited. Both sons are connected with the business, which is the oldest under one ownership in the community.
In a letter accompanying the plaque, the chamber president stated that "without the high business ideals that you have aspired to, we know that this accomplishment would not have been made."
Mr. Hoehne fractured his hip while visiting relatives in Minnesota last fall. He remained there with relatives, and was on the road to recovery when the hip was re-fractured in a fall.
A short time ago he returned to Wisconsin, and has been staying at the Bethel Nursing Home in Arpin. His son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Hoehn, brought him to Greenwood last Sunday for a visit and to receive the "man of the year" award.
A year ago the Greenwood chamber honored Dr. William Olson as its ‘man of the year’ on the occasion of his 4,000th delivery of a child.
