Rose, Mercy (13 JUN 1886 - 16 FEB 1955)

Mrs. Robert Rose, 68, Baker, Mont., died at her home early in the evening of Feb. 16, 1955.  Death was the result of a heart ailment.  The funeral was held in Baker Community Church Feb. 24.

Mrs. Rose, the former Mercy Hall, was born at Loyal, June 13, 1886.  She was graduated from the Loyal High School in 1904 as valedictorian of her class.  She attended Oshkosh Teachers College and taught in Clark County for six years.

She was married to Robert Rose June 30, 1910.  Immediately following the marriage, they went to Plevna, Mont, where they took a homestead and, although they made several visits of length to Loyal, they always considered Montana their home.

In Montana Mrs. Rose attended the Montana College of Education and Rocky Mountain College and taught a total of 21 years in Fallin Co., Mont.

She was a member of Baker Community Church and of Charity Chapter No. 60 O.E.S. of Baker.

The hynms, "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden," were sung at the funeral, and the O.E.S. conducted their memorial services.  Pallbearers were all former students of Mrs. Rose.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Josepine Smith, Boulder, Montana, and Mrs. John (Carol) Karch, Jr., Baker, Mont., and three grandchildren.  Four sisters also survive Mrs. Rose.  They are Mrs. Catherine Hazeltine, Milwaukee; Mrs. Glen Doering and Miss Isabel Hall, Loyal; and Mrs. Agnes Marquard, La Crosse.  One daughter, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Doering and Miss Hall went to Baker to attend their sister’s funeral.
