Ball, Virginia (1924? - 18 MAR 2011)

COLBY -- Virginia Mayfield Ball, 86, passed away in hospice care Friday, March 18, 2011, at Pine Ridge Assisted Living, in Colby.

She was born in Flint, Mich., to James and Elizabeth (Sweet) Mayfield. Virginia was a registered nurse trained at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Mich. She married Gordon Bateman Ball of Cleveland, Ohio, and raised three children there. She was active as a community volunteer and especially enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader.

After divorcing, Virginia moved back to Flint and resumed her career as an RN. In retirement, she fulfilled her dream of living in North Carolina with a mountain view.

She was an avid reader, listened to classical music and joined the North Carolina Chapter of the Michigan Club. In her later years, she moved to Marshfield and met new friends in the Marshfield Solo Club.

For 86 years, she did things with uncompromising gusto.

Virginia is survived by two daughters and one son, Catherine Scheib of Columbus, Ohio, Thomas Ball of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jane Bredendick of Marshfield.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Root of Birmingham, Mich., and Jane Bird of Grand Rapids, Mich.

No service is planned at this time. Memorials may be sent to local Girl Scout councils.

Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
