Clarence H. Gilbert, who for years was a resident of this area died at his home in Richfield, California, on Monday of this week at the age of 78. Death was caused by a stroke, the second he suffered within a week’s time.
Funeral services will be held in Corning, California, on Friday afternoon. Burial will be made there also. The Rev. Harper of the Assembly of God Church will officiate.
C. H. Gilbert was born on February 24, 1875, in Dane county. After his marriage on January 18, 1899 to Emma Lillich, the couple moved to Clark county and resided on a farm on Spencer route 2. After 30 years of farming they moved out to California but returned briefly for a year and a half at which time Mr. Gilbert worked in Colby’s Locker plant. For the past three years the have made their home in Richfield.
Among the surviving relatives are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Beatrice) Bunn, La Crosse, Leona Gilbert, St. Paul, Marian Gilbert, also of St. Paul; four sons, Julius, Richfield, Calif, Milford C., Spencer route 2 (pastor of Veefkind Community Church) , James, Corning, Calif., Ivan, Rodondo Beach, Calif. A son Andrew and a daughter Laura (Mrs. Ira Kline) preceded him in death.
