Amundson, Dale W. (20 January 1928 - 18 March 2011) With flag

 

Dale W. Amundson, 83, of Cumberland, died on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.  He was born on January 20, 1928 in Rice Lake, WI to Francis and Anna (Beylund) Amundson. Dale was raised in Rice Lake and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1945.  He graduated from UW-River Falls in 1951 with a major in Biology. Dale was married to Ardis Olson at Zion Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake on July 24, 1954.  He received a Masters Degree in Science Education at UW-Madison in 1957 and a Masters in Biology at the University of Montana-Missoula in 1964.  He taught biology and science at Thorp High School from 1952-1989.  While in Thorp, Dale was a co-leader of Explorer Scouts and a freshman basketball coach.

 

Dale retired as a captain from the Army National Guard where he had served from 1948-1969.

 

He is survived by his wife, Ardis, of Cumberland; two daughters: Roberta ( Rick) Freitag of Birchwood and Patricia (Richard) Lauria of Eden Prairie, MN; two sons: Michael (Donna) Amundson of Stillwater, MN and James Amundson of Madison; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Caroline Amundson of Cameron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Amundson and one sister, Janet Demers.

 

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at First Lutheran Church, Cumberland, WI with Rev. Timothy Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Private burial of cremains will be Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, WI.  Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Honors Team.

 

Memorials preferred to Friends of Hunt Hill or Thorp Education Scholarship in lieu of flowers.
