Laurent, Eugene (Africa Trip - 1961)
A travelogue of his recent trip to Africa was delivered by Eugene Laurent, president of Taylor County Teachers College, before the Greenwood Rotary Club last Thursday evening. Men teachers of the Greenwood schools were guests.
"It was the most fabulous seven weeks of my life," said Mr. Laurent. A former Clark County Superintendent of Schools, he told of fascinating experiences, interesting places and peoples and impressions of extremely tense situations that exist in many parts of Africa.
He said that "extremes exist in this emerging continent, from almost unbelievable wealth and luxury to great poverty, from modern cities to areas and peoples who have not changed for hundreds of years."
His trip took him to Denmark, Greece, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanganyika, Mozambique, the Union of South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Spain, and Bermuda.
